13 Ahaadith Pertaining to the 10 Days of Dhul-Hijjah

1. Allah Ta’aala loves to be worshipped during these days
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “There are no days more beloved to Allah that He be worshipped in them than the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, fasting every day of them is the equivalent of fasting a year, and standing every night of them (in prayer) is the equivalent of standing on the Night of Qadr.” (Tirmidhi)
 
2. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam used to fast nine days of Dhul-Hijjah
It was narrated from Hunaidah bin Khalid Radiallahu anhu, from his wife, from one of the wives of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam used to fast nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, the day of ‘Ashura’, and three days of each month: The first Monday of the month, and two Thursday. (Nasai)
 
3. Righteous actions are even more beloved than Jihad during these days
Ibn ‘Abbas (Radiallahu anhum) reported Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said, “There are no days during which the righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” He was asked: “O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?” He (ﷺ) replied, “Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it.” (Bukhari)
 
4. Two years of sins are forgiven

Abu Qatadah Al-Ansari Radiallahu anhu narrated, ‘Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah (the 9th of the month of Dhul Hijjah). He replied, “Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.” He was also asked about fasting on the day of Ashura (the 10th of the month of Muharram). He replied, “Fasting on the day of Ashura is an expiation for the preceding year.” Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam was also asked about fasting on Monday, and he replied, “This is the day on which I was born and the day on which I was sent (with the Message of Islam) and the day on which I received revelation.” (Muslim)

5. Proclaim The Oneness, The Greatness and the Praise of your Creater

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allah than on these ten days, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), Takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) and Tahmeed (saying Alhamdu Lillaah).” (Ahmad)

6. How did Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam slaughter?

Narrated by Anas Radiallahu anhu that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam slaughtered two rams, black and white in color (as sacrifices), and I saw him putting his foot on their sides and mentioning Allah’s Name and Takbir (Allahu Akbar). Then he slaughtered them with his own hands. (Bukhari)

7. The consideration Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam had for his Ummah 
Jabir bin ‘Abdullah Radiallahu anhu narrated that, “

I attended the Eid Al-Adha’ with Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam at the Musalla. When he finished his Khutbah, he descended from his Minbar and was given a male sheep. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam slaughtered it with his hand and said: ‘Bismillah, Wa Allahu Akbar, this from me and whoever does not slaughter from my Ummah.'” (Tirmidhi)

 
8.  What words were most dearest to our Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam

Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu reported that 

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said, “The uttering of the words: “Subhan-Allah (Allah is free from imperfection), Al-hamdu lillah (all praise is due to Allah), La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except Allah) and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)’ is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises.” (Muslim)

9. Would you like to be remembered in the Heavens?

It was narrated from Nu’man bin Bashir Radiallahu anhu that :
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “What you mention of glory of Allah, of Tabsih (Subhan-Allah), Tahlil (Allahu-Akbar) and Tahmid (Al-Hamdu lillah), revolves around the Throne, buzzing like bees, reminding of the one who said it. Wouldn’t any one of you like to have, or continue to have, something that reminds of him (in the presence of Allah)?'” (Ibn Majah)
 
10. Have  your sins shed like a tree sheds its leaves
It was narrated that Abu Darda’ Radiallahu anhu said that “Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said to me: ‘You should recite Subhan-Allah, wal-Hamdu-Lillah, wa la ilahah illallah, wa Allahu Akbar (Glory is to Allah, praise is to Allah, none has the right to be worshiped but Allah, and Allah is the Most Great), for it sheds sins like the tree sheds its leaves.'” (Daif-Ibn Majah)
 
11. Advice of Ibrahim Alayhi Salaam
Ibn Mas’ud Radiallahu anhu reported that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said, “I met Ibrahim Alayhi Salaam on the Night of Ascension (Al-Asra), and he said to me: ‘O Muhammad  Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, convey my greetings to your Ummah, and tell them that Jannah has a vast plain of pure soil and sweet water. It is a plain levelled land. The plants grow there by uttering: Subhan-Allah, Al-hamdu lillah, La ilaha illallah and Allahu Akbar (Allah is free from imperfection; praise be to Allah; there is no true god except Allah; and Allah is Greatest).” (

12. When you are unable to read the Qur’an

It was narrated that Ibn Abi Awfa Radiallahu anhu said:
“A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘I cannot learn anything of the Quran; teach me something that I can say instead of reciting the Quran.’ He said: ‘Say: SubhanAllah, wal-hamdulilah, wa la illaha ill-Allah, wa Allahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Billahil-aliy al-azim (Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, Allah is Most Great, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah the Exalted and Magnificent ).'” (Nasai)
 
13. A tree in paradise for every recitation

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam passed by him when he was planting a plant, and said: “O Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu, what are you planting?” I said: “A plant for me.” He said: “Shall I not tell you of a plant that is better than this?” He said: “Of course, O Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.” He said: “Say: ‘Subhan-Allah, wal-hamdu-lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar (Glory is to Allah, praise is to Allah, none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and Allah is the Most Great.)’ For each one a tree will be planted for you in Paradise.” (Ibn Majah)
